It has been a while since I added anything to this spot, but I do want to emphasize the upcoming sermon series based on the movie, "Fireproof Your Marriage." It of course stars Kirk Cameron of "Growing Pains" fame, a story of how two people, once so desperately in love... somehow just drifted apart. Why?
The movie which came out last Fall was a tremendous success, and I personally know of people who went to see it as many as four times.
We begin on Sunday, January 11th, with an introduction titled, "Building a Happy Home" and using Psalm 101 as the foundation for the message. After that we will consider:
"He Said, "She Said" (Jan 18);
"He First Loved Us" (Jan 25);
"Love for a Lifetime" (Feb 1)
"Breaking Free" (Feb. 8)
"A Better Way of Loving" (Feb 22)
A "Valentines' Dinner" is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 14th from 5:30 to 7:30, catered at the church, and the public is invited to join us for this as well as the sermon series.
I also want to welcome aboard our new Youth Pastor, Andrew Schubert. Andrew was graduated from Maranatha Baptist Bible College in May, and is currently taking his seminary training on-line from Southern Evangelical in Charlotte, N. C. We welcome Andrew aboard and thank God for his interest in young people. Not only does he lead the Holy Fire Youth Group on Wednesday, but teaches the senior high Sunday school class. He will be directing Vacation Bible School again this summer (August 2-6) as well as CEF Back Yard Bible Clubs.
As we begin this new year, there are any number of concerns you and I face in our world, including the economic crisis; the rising crime rate; what is happening in the Middle East... all of which raises questions about "tomorrow." The emphasis all across the board seems to be "change!" And that can be scary! But rest assured, there are some things which do not change, including the Word of God and His unconditional love for us.
If you are looking for a church where you will be warmly received and loved, I want to extend a special invitation to you to join us this Sunday. Our congregation includes some of the greatest people you could ever meet... and we'd like to meet you! If you have any questions, please call us at 815-563-4315.
